Installation Guide
for Windows 95®

If you are converting from Windows 3.1 or 3.11 to Windows 95, please read and print out this guide to setting up your system to access the Internet Channel in Windows 95. We can also send or fax a copy of this guide to you.

Do not use the Inch Windows 3.1/3.11 installation software with Windows 95. We will be happy to send you new installation diskettes, if necessary, and at no cost. You only need the programs (browser, mail) for Windows 95; the connection, telnet and FTP software are internal to the operating system. You can, however, obtain third-party clients for telnet and FTP if you wish. You can download Windows 95 programs in advance and install them after converting your operating system.

The Microsoft Windows 95 operating system includes built-in utilities to connect to Internet Channel and the Internet.

Included in this manual are step-by-step instructions and screen shots to help you install and configure the Win 95 components for an Internet connection. It is very important that you do not use any Windows 3.x connection kits such as Trumpet WinSock or Internet in a Box. These applications are not specifically designed for Windows 95 and may lead to slower performance and compatibility problems.

1. Checking the System Set-up

The first step is to see whether two important components of the Win95 connection kit are installed.
